“Dear Future Me” is a series in which Shohei Koyama—poet and owner of JIYUCHO — delivers poetic words in Japanese and English, like letters to his future self that trace the subtleties of everyday life. I hope this becomes a place like your mailbox where postcard poems arrive.

Blursday

Blursday

People say this and that

but I just wanna stay blurred undefined

half-asleep half-awake just drifting

Forget what day it is

watch the city buzz alive

I kinda wanna grab a drink

just ‘cause joy’s in the air

Through the haze I squint my eyes

and there you come from the other side

I wanna believe

your beauty never fades

always keeps shining

Even on foggy days

I’m gonna keep walking straight

I wanna love the detours the wanderings the pauses

love without end this half-written life

free and playful

like my messy hair twisting with today’s mood

With a yawn I let it float into the sky

About this piece

When did you write it, and under what circumstances?

Afternoon. On a clear day with a drowsy, heavy mood.

If this poem were turned into a song, what would it sound like?

With just an acoustic guitar, strumming big and slow, letting it ring out.
