Dear Future Me Dear Future Me
“Dear Future Me” is a series in which Shohei Koyama—poet and owner of JIYUCHO — delivers poetic words in Japanese and English, like letters to his future self that trace the subtleties of everyday life. I hope this becomes a place like your mailbox where postcard poems arrive.

Bracelet

Nine o’clock in Honolulu
pizza from a back-alley shop
sweet wine uncorked in the room
outside that open window
on the balcony just then
the south wind carried the ocean
moment by moment into our night
Secrets make the heart dance
eyes are stolen
by the allure of whispered talk
All of it swept far away
taken by the tide
and only beautiful words
only ideals
are allowed to remain here
I want to go see the sunrise
the touch of innocence waking me gently
a bracelet tied around my ankle
so I will not forget
Even now I am guarded by that night
the salt in the air
the sound of the wind
