Chace's Pancake Corral
"Is this seat all right?” “Uh, can I go sit in the corner?” “Sure! You can pick any seat you want!”
I put my luggage on the chair. "Good Morning, my name is Sara, I'll be in charge today. Nice to meet you! Would you like some coffee? Would you like some water too?" She asks in a tone of voice that is bright and gentle, surely not unlike the tone she uses when talking to her friend.
I take a seat and look at the menu. I find the eggs benedict on the menu, which I was so fascinated with when I first discovered it here that it has remained number one on my breakfast menu ever since, so and I grin.
Sara sees the look on my face and comes back with the order sheet. "Are you ready?"" Yeahh".
"This one, Egg Benedict please"
"With 〜 or hashed potate?"
“hashed potatoe"
"Good choice!"
I like hashed potatoes, which reminds me that every time I'm asked how to cook potatoes here, I can't hear any other option than hashed potatoes at all.
I watch an elderly couple enter the restaurant holding hands. Smile and exchange greetings with the staff. They slowly take their seats. The morning sun shines on the restaurant. Watching the staff clearing away the seats, I can't stop admiring their work because of the beauty of the scene.
"The coffee is good, where is it from?" I ask the staff who comes to pour me another cup of coffee. " Yeah it's good, isn't it? This coffee is from the company called Farmerbro" " I see, I'll check if I can buy coffee beans from them”.
There is no music or radio playing at this restaurant. The conversation with the staff, the sound of coffee beans being ground, the ensemble of tableware, the voices of couples sitting around the table, and the conversations of friends. The atmosphere is naturally suited to these elements. A coziness that continues to be created by the people.
I finish my eggs benedict in a flash and take a cup of coffee that I don't even know how many times I've had it poured. Then I check the bus times.
Of course there is a part of me that wishes I could go there more often, but I think it is also nice to have a restaurant that I can keep going to slowly over a very long period of time.
I head to the cash register. As I pay the bill, each and every staff member I have spoken to today smiles and says, “Thanks for coming". I also make eye contact with the kitchen staff. He smiles.
“I checked and it looks like I can buy their coffee beans,” I tell the staff member who told me the coffee company, when he came close to me. "Oh really! then I'll also buy some coffee beans cuz I want to drink it at home too". he smiles.
