JIYUCHO’s Second Shop, Poetic Cafe FUTO, Is Open

On December 16, JIYUCHO’s new shop FUTO opened in Kuramae 3-chome.

Inside the shop stands a shelf with 366 drawers, where letters written by customers to their future selves are carefully kept. No matter how many times we see it, the sight feels powerful.

The seating area is filled with details chosen in the spirit of JIYUCHO: art that owner Shohei Koyama encountered while traveling, antique furniture found especially for this shop, an original object made by combining driftwood into the form of a tree, a piano, and more.

The result is a calm space filled with the care and personality of JIYUCHO.

Menus at FUTO

There are two main experiences to enjoy at FUTO.

The first is TOMOSHIBI LETTER, FUTO edition, where you write a letter to yourself one year in the future while enjoying a drink and a small sweet.

The second is A CUP OF LETTER, a pairing of poetry with coffee, tea, alcohol, sweets, or light food.

The FUTO edition of TOMOSHIBI LETTER comes in three themes:

• With the sky of a new dawn heading toward the future, for those who want to savor the feeling of today
• In a gentle midday light looking over daily life, for those who want to reconsider what they are working on
• In a quiet evening where the self begins to blur, for those who want to think deeply about hobbies and things they love

A CUP OF LETTER can be enjoyed with coffee, tea, ginger ale, herbal craft cola, banana cake, gateau chocolat, vegan ice cream, and other cafe menu items prepared with JIYUCHO’s particular care.

We hope you will come spend time however you like in this relaxed space.

A Poem for FUTO

To be lost in thought, to read, to talk with a friend, to spend time with someone important.
To worry, to rest, to think, to write a letter to yourself one year from now.
Sometimes with gentle tea, coffee, or alcohol.
Sometimes with a small sweet or something to eat.
Inside busy days, to enjoy the times when the sun rises and eventually sets.
To become absorbed in thought, or absorbed in conversation, and spend the time while coffee cools.
To love the time while ice cream melts.
To write down the changing days and the turning seasons.
To think of the person I am today, and the person you were yesterday.
To savor honest feelings and daily life, and keep living.
To nurture hope, and keep living.
