Once a month, JIYUCHO sends out the Monthly JIYUCHO Letter. This issue was sent at the end of March 2026, carrying notes from JIYUCHO and FUTO, upcoming information, and small stories from our days.
Greetings from the manager of JIYUCHO and FUTO
Good evening. This is Yamamoto, manager of JIYUCHO and FUTO. Thank you for everything this month.
The days have grown warmer little by little, and spring seems to be arriving in many small ways. Around this season, a smile seen in passing or the softness of the air can make an ordinary day feel just a little brighter.
There are busy days, and there are days when the heart does not quite keep up. Even so, when we notice what is beside a smile, the world can feel gentler than we expected. I hope this newsletter can be a companion for such a moment.
Podcast JIYUCHO FM
In JIYUCHO FM, manager Yamamoto and owner and poet Shohei Koyama talk about everyday events and thoughts from listeners. The conversations move freely between light laughter and serious reflection.
This month too, the podcast follows small questions that arise in daily life. Sometimes a tiny worry opens into a bigger theme, and sometimes a casual word becomes a clue for living. Please listen when you want to spend time with a conversation that does not hurry you.
April opening schedule
In April, JIYUCHO and FUTO will continue to welcome visitors as places for writing letters, reading words, and spending time with yourself.
JIYUCHO is open on weekdays from 13:00 to 18:00 and on weekends and holidays from 10:00 to 20:00. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, except when they fall on holidays. FUTO is open on weekdays from 13:00 to 18:00 and on weekends and holidays from 10:00 to 20:00. It is closed on Tuesdays, except when they fall on holidays.
We use dynamic pricing depending on the time of day. Before 11:00, the space is more affordable and usually calmer, so please consider visiting in the morning if your schedule allows.
Poetry and letters: Nanda Aika has been released
The poetry and letter work Nanda Aika has been released. It is a project that brings together words, affection, and the act of sending something to someone.
Love is not always easy to explain. Sometimes we realize only afterward that what we felt was love. Sometimes the word feels too large, and sometimes it appears in a very small gesture. This work gathers that kind of feeling in the form of words and letters.
If there is someone you want to think of, or if there is a feeling you want to look at more carefully, we hope you will encounter this work.
April 25: JIYUCHO Otobanchi vol.5, Debbie Miller with Special guest
On Saturday, April 25, we will hold JIYUCHO Otobanchi vol.5 at FUTO, welcoming Debbie Miller with a special guest.
Otobanchi is a live music series that takes place in the intimate space of FUTO. The sound of instruments and voices reaches the room without a large distance between performers and listeners, and the experience becomes something close to sharing time together.
We hope those who come will enjoy not only the music itself, but also the atmosphere of gathering in one room and listening carefully.
A recommended poem in place of closing words
This month, after introducing spring schedules, a poetry-and-letter release, and a live music event, I found myself thinking about what sits beside a smile.
A smile may come from joy, but it may also appear with relief, embarrassment, memory, or tenderness. Around one smile, many feelings gather. The poem recommended this month seems to let us stand near such feelings without having to sort them too quickly.
When you read it, perhaps you will remember the people, places, or scenes that have quietly supported your own smile. I hope spring brings you many such moments.
Bonus words of the month
This month too, a memorable line was born from an ordinary conversation among JIYUCHO members. It began as something said lightly, but everyone laughed because it somehow touched the truth of our days.
At JIYUCHO, we often find that the words worth keeping are not always carefully prepared. They appear while someone is eating, cleaning, talking, or simply being themselves. Perhaps that is why they feel warm.
