Dear Future Me Dear Future Me
“Dear Future Me” is a series in which Shohei Koyama—poet and owner of JIYUCHO — delivers poetic words in Japanese and English, like letters to his future self that trace the subtleties of everyday life. I hope this becomes a place like your mailbox where postcard poems arrive.
We All For Words
On a plane bound for Seattle. We're heading from midnight towards dawn. Soon we'll arrive at the Emerald City, a place I haven't visited in a year. A misty morning, the sound of rain, the scent of greenery. The darkness of coffee.
We're hosting a music and letter-themed event, as well as a letter-themed pop-up cafe, in Seattle this week.
We are moving forward, little by little. Step by step, with the people who walk alongside us, each carrying their own heavy burdens. We enjoy reuniting with those we waved goodbye to along the long, long journey. And above all, we are saved by the sparkle of new encounters.
Nine years have passed since we began this journey, and now in Seattle, our word "Jiyucho" dances on the wind. Supported by young and beautiful bearers who will continue to light the way for our word tomorrow and the day after in the back alleys of Kuramae. Across the ocean, our word will be carried on the voices of new people, becoming the words of someone new. Jiyucho, JIYUCHO, jiyucho...
We are all bearers of words. Today, as always, we support and carry words. Together with everyone who speaks those words, we meet, nurture, and carry them forward. Towards the dawn.
