🎊 Collaboration with the Kyōgen Stage “Claramonde” — Letters to Our Past Selves on Display ✉️
Hello! This is Takano from the team.
We’re excited to share that JIYUCHO is collaborating with the upcoming performance “Kyōgenshi Yukio Ishida’s Claramonde + α”, taking place at the Shinjuku Kabukichō Noh Theater!
⭐️ What is Claramonde? ⭐️
It’s a story of a forbidden love between a young priest and a breathtakingly beautiful vampire.
By day, he lives as a devoted man of faith; by night, he indulges in a lavish secret life with Claramonde, the enchanting vampire.
Caught between dream and reality, he eventually chooses to part ways with her—yet even afterward, he continues to struggle, wondering:
“Was that really the right decision?”
✉️ About the Collaboration ✉️
At the venue, we are showcasing a series of “letters to one’s past self,” written under the theme:
“To the me who made that choice back then.”
To the self who chose to walk away from a long-time partner.
To the self who decided to chase a dream, even knowing how hard it would be.
To the self who stepped into an unknown world.
Whether the choice we made was right or wrong—perhaps we may never know, even on the last day of our lives.
Still, here in the present, shaped by those choices, how do we look back on our pasts?
These letters display the honest voices of many different people.
We hope you’ll enjoy the performance while reflecting on your own past decisions as well. 😌
📮 Special Postcard for This Collaboration
We’ve also created an original postcard decorated with memorable lines from the play!
You can pick one up at the entrance.
If you write a letter after the show and drop it into the mailbox inside the venue, it will be delivered to you one year later.
Feel free to write down the feelings the play inspires in you—thoughts about your past choices, decisions, or anything that comes to mind in that moment.
The performance features the remarkable stage presence, vocal expression, and physical storytelling of Yukio Ishida, a leading figure in the Noh and Kyōgen world, along with a different guest performer each day.
In the dreamy, atmospheric space of the Noh theater, what kind of world will unfold on stage…? 👀
